Ruth Ifediora is a Senior Nurse Educator at Parkland Health and Hospital System, Dallas Texas. She is an American Psychiatric Nurses Association Suicide Prevention Competency Facilitator. She also teaches SAMA, Stop the Bleed, CPR, and ACLS. As a devoted nurse advocate, a mentor, community activist, healthcare policy advocate, social change agent, and a philanthropist, Ruth has made it a life’s mission to help others through participation in the policy development processes that impact the public.

Tell us about your business (What product or services you provide and who your target audience is)
I run a non-profit organization that creates public awareness on suicide prevention, mental health promotion, and care of the poor. Evidence has shown that every 40 seconds, someone dies of suicide, and I started this foundation because my mother died by Suicide in Nigeria.

Non-prof.organization focusing in creating public awareness on Suicide prevention, mental health promotion, care of the poor and vulnerable.
Evidence has shown that every 40 seconds,someone dies by Suicide.For every one Suicide,there 25 Suicide attempts.
I started this foundation because my mother died by Suicide in Nigeria.
What does being a business owner mean to you and why did you become an entrepreneur?
Being a business woman means service to humanity and being the voice to the voiceless.
What is the one thing (good or bad) that you have learned as a business owner?
Serving the community created opportunity for self fulfillment, networking, and being the voice for the voiceless. I also have challenges like, lack of support, limited fund, sponsors and partnerships.

What would you say is your greatest accomplishment in your business so far?

Paying school fees for over 230 students in Nigeria, caring for 69 widows in Nigeria, community outreaches, and discussing mental health and Suicide prevention in our community.

What’s the best business advice you have received that you wish to pass on to our readers?
Write down your dreams,  passion and work towards it. Always pray that God will send help along your journey. Consistency is the key . Read, read, and network with people in business of your interest. Know the regulations that will impact your business and follow through, ignorance is not an excuse. Do not compete but learn and look for mentors, lastly join organizations that advocate for the betterment of your business.

Where do you see your business in the next five years?
In five year, my business would have expanded and we will be serving over 10,000 people.

What do you think will be the biggest challenge for the generation of women behind you?
Lack of support may likely discourage them.
Remain steadfast, consistent and God will bring help.
