Shekudo is a sustainable women’s footwear and accessories label founded in Australia and manufactured across Nigeria in collaboration with local Nigerian artisans and craftsmen. Shekudo seeks to promote an overlooked and under financed local industry, a key sector which it believes, holds large economic potential. Shekudo looks to train 25 Nigerian women (particularly those unemployed and at-risk) in the art of shoemaking by 2021. 🥿👠👡👢👝👛👜💼😍
Amy Akudo Iheakanwa is an Australian born community development worker.
Akudo was born & raised in Australia to a Nigerian father & Australian mother.
Her background is in community development & health, working mainly with youth.
Akudo is a strong advocate for empowerment especially for young women through skill acquisition & job creation.
“Supporting local craftsmanship is something we need to continue to do,” she says.
We have a lot to offer in Nigeria and I believe we can build upon what we have to create better products rather than always relying on imports.”
