Odwa Situma, also known as Dee Koala, is a promising young South African female rapper and songwriter from Khayelitsha, Cape Town, South Africa. She was born on May 11th, 1998.
“The name Dee is the nickname for Odwa and the Koala is my spirit animal and besides that, it’s also on the verge of becoming extinct, when they die I will be the only Koala left and will represent the rest of the Koala’s that have lived”, she says.
Dee Koala began her rapping career in 2016. She gained recognition after recording one of her first songs, which paved the way for her into the music and entertainment industry. She is best known for her single titled Koala, which she released in 2016 as part of her 6-track EP 18-18.
Dee Koala is now steadily climbing up the industry ladder, touted as the one to watch by South African hip-hop industry heavyweights.
Dee Koala is getting ready to release her debut mixtape ‘4 The Khaltsha’. The release speaks to her home of Khayelitsha as well as the culture of hip hop. Rapping in IsiXhosa, she drops mad bars on a freestyle she has just released, her energy cannot be missed. She brings a certain type of authenticity in her style of rap and the rawness in her verses depicts an entirely new but exciting feel to hip-hop.

Since this weighty introduction, the confident and witty Khayelitsha rapper has continued to mark herself as a force to be reckoned with.
This year 2021, to make her stamp even more, the independent rapper also shared that her eponymous music and entertainment company had entered into a new distribution deal with American record label and publishing company, EMPIRE.
